This photo from 1958, was taken on the old pitches at Church Road, where the Willow Bank estate is now built.
The Ringmahon Rangers club began as a school boys team in 1951. It was founded at Dunlocha Cottages.
In 1958/59 the club won the AUL Junior Championship. Ringmahon Ranger AFC, made it a three-in a row when they won again in 1960 and 1961. The club also won the Munster Junior Cup and the AOH trophy as well in that period.
Ringmahon Rangers then entered the Munster Senior League in 1962 and they proceeded to dominate that league for over a decade. They were champions seven times in eight seasons, and won in 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1970, and 1971, an incredible achievement. (Runners-up in 1967).
The photo is part of the Con Hannigan archive and appeared on South Gate. An interesting article on the history of Ringmahon Rangers can be found at http://www.blackrockcork@onlineheritage.ie.
