Italy versus Wales.
Stadio Olimpico, Rome. 5:00 pm.
Italy have been among the most impressive teams in the tournament, with a great style of football with everyone passing and moving quickly off the ball. Italy have stuffed both Turkey and Switzerland in their opening matches. Italy have looked excellent so far, but there must be a doubt about the level of opposition (particularly Turkey). Italy must be among the favourites for the tournament, they have among the best midfields in the competition, good attack, but defence is still an unknown quantity.
Wales have had a good tournament picking up a result against Switzerland, and having a very good win against Turkey in Baku. Wales are a solid team, that are a combination of Championship level players, with some very good players playing for them in a cohesive team. Wales will give Italy their most challenging match of Euro 2020 so far.
Verdict: Italy 2 Wales 1. This is a very difficult match to call today. Both teams have effectively qualified for the Second Round. This result is dependent on Italy giving games to squad players. Wales are also a better team then either Switzerland and Turkey, and Wales’ attack of Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey, Dan James and Kieffer Moore will cause problems for any defence in the competition. I think that Wales will score, but Italy will do just enough to win.
Switzerland versus Turkey.
Olympic Stadium, Baku. 5:00 pm
Verdict: 2-0 to Switzerland. Turkey have been the worst team in this competition (Remember when everyone had them had dark horses), and Switzerland always have a good team, that always qualifies for the competition, but never go that far. Switzerland to win this, and it could be a heavy defeat for Turkey.
