All Ireland Championship Matches Weekend Preview 10th July 2021 to 11th July 2021.

All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 2021.

Antrim versus Laois.

10th July 2021. Parnell Park, Dublin. 2:30 pm.

This is the match between the also-rans of the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Both teams are teams that can win the second tier competition, but should be happy to get an early win in the All Ireland Hurling Championship.

Verdict: Antrim to shade it over Laois.

All Ireland Senior Football Championship 2021.

Connaught Senior Football Championship 2021.

Leitrim versus Mayo.

11th July 2021. MacHale Park, Castlebar. 2:00 pm.

This is the type of match, that shows why the football championship is in need of reform. Leitrim are in Division Four of the National Football League. Mayo are in Division Two, but they focus primarily on the All Ireland Football Championship. Mayo has had a consistent spine of the team for the last ten years, so the National Football League isn’t the priority. Mayo had a comfortable win over Sligo in their first match of the All Ireland championship. Mayo’s most consistent scorer, Cillian O’Connor is ruled out for the rest of the season. Mayo have been the most consistent team to never an All Ireland, and should go far in the Championship.

Verdict: Mayo to win by at least ten points. This has the potential for a mis-match. Leitrim cannot match Mayo in any parts of the pitch, and Mayo will win well. This match could truly be a trashing, but Mayo don’t have to extend themselves.

Munster Senior Football Championship 2021.

Cork versus Limerick.

10th July 2021. Gaelic Grounds, Limerick. 3:00 pm.

Cork footballers have been an underachiever since they last won the All Ireland Senior Football Championship in 2010. Cork have not won the Munster Senior Football Championship since 2012. Cork’s attacking play can be slow and frustrating to watch. Limerick beat Waterford in their last match, but Waterford have always been football minnows. Limerick are at home, but Cork will do enough to win.

Verdict: Cork to win by five points.

Tipperary versus Kerry.

10th July 2021. Semple Stadium, Thurles. 7:00 pm.

Reigning Munster Champions, Tipperary are up against Kerry in Thurles, this evening. Tipperary have had a poor National Football League in 2021, being relegated to Division 4, in the early summer. Tipperary, while having some good individual players, are not a consistent team. Kerry are joint League Champions in 2021, and look like they could be competitive in the All Ireland Championship. Kerry won their first match of the All Ireland Championship against Clare, with a comprehensive victory. Kerry’s poor Championship last year, could make them more dangerous this year and will be a threat to anyone.

Verdict: Kerry to win comprehensively. The improvement of Kerry, this year and the demotion of Tipperary, means all the momentum is going Kerry’s way. This could be a very comprehensive win for Kerry.

Ulster Senior Football Championship.

Tyrone versus Cavan.

10th July 2021. Healy Park, Omagh. 4:30 pm.

Cavan is like Tipperary, in that have overachieved last year, but have underachieved in the National Football League, earlier this summer, being relegated to Division 4. Tyrone have had a mixed league, but were thrashed by Kerry in the semi final of the National League. Tyrone play at a much higher level then Cavan and this should be enough for a win for Tyrone.

Verdict: Tyrone to win,

Donegal versus Derry.

11th July 2021. MacCumhaill Park, Ballybofey. 4:00 pm.

Donegal lost the Ulster Senior Football final last year against Cavan. Donegal reached the semi final of the National Football, losing to Dublin. Donegal have a competitive and consistent team over the years, and beat Down comprehensively in the First Round of the Ulster Senior Football Championship. Derry had a good National Football League, winning promotion to Division 2, having won all three of their matches. Derry have good momentum and could give Donegal a game.

Verdict: Donegal to win. Donegal have been the most consistent team in Ulster over the last ten years, and should progress. I don’t expect an easy game for Donegal.
